Discipline is not a weakness, it is our strength: Tarique Rahman to leaders and activists

Desk Report:

BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman has given a strong message to leaders and activists ahead of the national elections to be held in February next year. Reiterating his tough stance against corruption, he said that the party will not tolerate corruption, extortion and misconduct.

He gave this message in a post on his verified Facebook page this Thursday morning.

In the post, Tarique Rahman said that organizational action has already been taken against more than 7,000 party members based on various allegations. Some have been removed from their posts for corruption, extortion and misconduct, while many have been expelled from the party.

He said, “It was not easy to take such decisions amidst multifaceted propaganda, but in the context of reality, they were essential. Discipline is not a weakness; rather, it is our strength.”

He also said, “BNP has proven that it is sincere about honesty by holding its members accountable.” They hold themselves to the same standards that they demand from those in power.’

Tareq Rahman mentioned that BNP is reaching out to people from every class and profession of society, starting from the grassroots, to reflect the hopes and aspirations of the young generation of the future. The party’s organizational structure is being further strengthened from the village to the center. Through this, the party wants to ensure transparency and accountability.

He said, ‘We want to rebuild the trust of the people—especially the youth, who do not want to see politics as just a game of power; rather, they want to see it as a great field developed with the participation of everyone.’

Stating that BNP is being modernized according to the needs of the time, Tareq Rahman said that the party is further strengthening its direct contact with the people. The party’s policies have been developed based on a 31-point program, including promises for education, healthcare, youth employment, climate change, and digital innovation.

He said, ‘We want to ensure the participation of more women, young leaders and professionals by prioritizing inclusion, so that the nation moves forward and politics is engaged in serving the people.’

Tarique Rahman expressed the hope that BNP’s identity should be a symbol of service, justice and efficiency; not a symbol of division or privilege.

The acting chairman of BNP said that the current challenges of Bangladesh are different, so the party’s steps will also have to be reshaped. However, they do not deny history; rather, they want to move forward on its basis. He recalled the struggle of party founder Ziaur Rahman and Chairperson Khaleda Zia and said that BNP is entering a new era with their aspirations in mind, where honesty, young leadership and global competitiveness will be the important foundations of state building.

Tarique Rahman also said, ‘We know that the youth want real opportunities, they do not want empty words. The people want stability, they do not want chaos. And the world wants Bangladesh to be a credible and respected democratic state.’

He said to the party leaders and workers, ‘Let us remain united, disciplined and committed to serving the people. Just as I trust each of you, you should also trust me. Only then will the path of democracy become brighter.’
